With the aging population, more and more patients are going onto Medicare (America's Socialized Healthcare System). And with more and more patients using Medicare we are beginning to experience shortages of doctors in the Primary Care profession.
If you don't believe me, just read this letter that I got today from my PCP, Dr. Susan McMaster: Letter from Dr. McMaster
Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement rates are so low, that PCP doctors can barely afford their overhead costs, and they are being forced to close their PCP practices. Fewer and fewer of our best and brightest are choosing PCP careers.
This is a strong example of the unintended consequences of a single-payer (or socialized) health care system.
Folks, how are we going to service 47 million additional patients with fewer doctors? If we allow President Obama to succeed with his idea of healthcare reform, we will all eventually be on "Medicare" (The public healthcare option), and we will be waiting in line to see our Primary Care Doctor longer than we do now or ever have before.
Urge your congressmen NOT to adopt a public health insurance plan that competes with private insurance. If doctors are forced to participate in a public health insurance network, eventually, we won't have enough doctors to service all of our needs. Private health insurance cannot compete on a level playing field with a public plan that does not have the same tax liabilities, tax subsidies and the power to force doctors to accept reimbursement rates that are too low to cover overhead costs. A public plan will drive private insurance companies out of business and drive private doctors out of practice, leaving us with shortages and poorer quality of care.
