Colorado Health Insurance

Coloradoans looking for information about the new Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan put into place by the by Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, can find information about this plan here:

Unfortunately, the new website does not provide a detailed plan description form.  The only information provided about the plan is as follows:

On August 1, eligible residents of Colorado will be able to apply for coverage through the state’s Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan program run by the Rocky Mountain Health Maintenance Organization, Inc.

To qualify for coverage:

• You must be a citizen or national of the United States or lawfully present in the United States.
• You must have been uninsured for at least the last six months before you apply.
• You must have had a problem getting insurance due to a pre-existing condition.

The Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan will cover a broad range of health benefits, including primary and specialty care, hospital care, and prescription drugs.  All covered benefits are available for you, even if it’s to treat a pre-existing condition.

For those people with pre-existing conditions who would like more choice in coverage options or have not been uninsured for at least 6 months, Colorado already has a high risk pool (guaranteed issue plan) that has been in place for many, many years called Cover Colorado.  (www.covercolorado.org), so if you cannot qualify for PCIP, make sure to visit the Cover Colorado Website.
